Statement on the climate protection program
Helmholtz Energy has submitted a statement as part of the public consultation process conducted by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety on the climate protection program.
The federal government is currently developing a new climate protection program to achieve its climate targets—a 65% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2045. The energy sector—including energy industries, energy consumption in industry and buildings, and transportation—is responsible for more than three-quarters of total greenhouse gas emissions. The energy transition is therefore the central building block on the path to climate neutrality.
Key messages from Helmholtz Energy:
- The decisive and rapid implementation of the transformation offers enormous economic, social, and environmental opportunities.
- In conjunction with securing access to critical raw materials and resources, it is a key lever for strengthening resilience and security of supply.
- Only through a coordinated strategy that combines technological innovation, sustainable value chains, and international partnerships can we secure long-term energy supplies while ensuring technological sovereignty.
- This forms the basis for increased competitiveness, innovative strength, and sustainable industrial development—and thus for securing Germany's position as a business location in global competition.
With scientific excellence, technological innovation, and strong partnerships, Helmholtz Energy is ready to make the necessary contribution to the transformation of the energy system. To achieve this, research, industry, and politics must pull together—for a secure, climate-neutral, and competitive energy future for Germany.
