Fact Sheet on Energy Research

Germany faces the challenge of achieving climate neutrality, energy security, and competitiveness simultaneously. Energy research is the key to reconciling these goals. Using selected examples, this fact sheet illustrates how Helmholtz Energy develops solutions to key future challenges and, together with partners from industry and society, contributes to strengthening Germany as a business location.

During the parliamentary evening event “Energy Research and Innovation for Germany as a Business Hub” on March 4, 2026, in Berlin, challenges and opportunities were discussed with representatives from politics, science, and business. The focus was on a resilient and sustainable hydrogen value chain, innovative materials for energy generation and storage, and safe, affordable, and resilient energy systems.
