Parlamentary Breakfast 2024
More than 30 political decision-makers gathered at the Jakob Kaiser Building in the German Bundestag on May 17, 2024, to learn more from scientists about CO₂ capture and storage.
ESD-MTET PhD Workshop 2023
Our first joint ESD-MTET PhD workshop took place in Siegburg from September 26 to 27, 2023, with around 50 doctoral students participating. They gained an insight into the Helmholtz Research Field Energy and the two programs Energy System Design (ESD) and Materials and Technologies for the Energy Transition (MTET). Afterwards, the doctoral students presented their own research work in “Pitch your research” and discussed topics such as the circular economy, decarbonization of (process) heat, technology assessment, Open X, and hydrogen logistics in workshops. In addition to the exchange of technical content, the aim was to promote cross-program networking and encourage participants to “think outside the box” and consider other research topics. The event will take place again at regular intervals, which is also supported by the positive feedback from participants.
Energy Scenario Workshop 2023 in Berlin
On October 13, Helmholtz Energy invited experts from energy scenario research and representatives of federal ministries to a workshop in Berlin under the motto “Energy scenarios taken further: Socio-technical perspectives from Helmholtz Energy.” Around 30 participants gained insights into the latest findings from energy scenario research in the Helmholtz Energy Program Energy System Design and related these to previously published energy scenarios.
The discussion focused on technical details such as linking context scenarios and techno-economic models, the selection and significance of descriptors, the differences from established energy scenarios, and the definition of sustainability criteria and their translation into models and sustainability assessments. Furthermore, topics such as the accessibility and publication of data, the importance of science communication, and the conversion of research results into concrete recommendations for action were discussed. The discussion ended with considerations on future research directions and the possibility of a follow-up workshop.
Helmholtz Energy Conference 2023 „Tackling the Challenges of the Energy Transition“
On June 12 and 13, 2023, the Helmholtz Research Field Energy met at the first Helmholtz Energy Conference “Tackling the Challenges of the Energy Transition” in Koblenz. Over 330 researchers from the Helmholtz Research Centers Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, German Aerospace Center (DLR), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and the associated partner IPP Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics came together to exchange ideas on the latest advances in Helmholtz energy research and to network.
Helmholtz Energy presents itself at the Helmholtz Annual Conference on September 21
The topic of energy will be the focus of the Helmholtz Annual Conference on September 21, 2022. Helmholtz Energy will present itself on this occasion with an exhibition of some highlights from energy research.
Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin will be on site with a model of its real-world laboratory for building-integrated photovoltaics. Forschungszentrum Jülich will be presenting its SpinBot platform for automated laboratory processes. The German Aerospace Center is presenting an exhibit on sustainable aviation fuels for climate-neutral air travel. A mini-pneumatic pilot flotation apparatus will be presented by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology will be on site with its start-up ICODOS, which focuses on CO₂ capture and the production of methanol.
The team from the Helmholtz Energy coordination center will also be on site. We look forward to a lively exchange with guests from research, politics and business.
