Retrospect: Helmholtz Energy Women Career Workshop 2025

Female Leadership

This year's Helmholtz Energy Women Career Workshop took place in Fulda on October 23 and 24, 2025. Twenty-two female scientists from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, German Aerospace Center, Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Helmholtz Zentrum Dresden Rossendorf, and Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics came together to discuss career paths, leadership roles, and personal development.
Under the title “Female Leadership,” Lisa Steinhauser led an intensive workshop in which key questions relating to leadership were discussed:
•    What distinguishes a good leader?
•    How can delegation be effective?
•    How can clear boundaries be set and communicated?
The participants developed strategies together and reflected on their own experiences and goals. The workshop provided space for honest discussions, mutual support, and new ideas for professional development.
A special highlight was the evening fireside chat, moderated by Simone McInturff. Guests Lisa Steinhauser and Tonya Vitova (KIT) spoke openly about their careers, the challenges they faced on their way to becoming professors, balancing family and career, and the importance of visibility and networking. The participants' questions led to a lively and inspiring exchange.
At the end of the workshop, participants not only took away new ideas and perspectives, but also valuable contacts and lots of positive feedback. We would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment and look forward to seeing you again at the next Helmholtz Energy Women Career Workshop!
